Non-Toxic + Safe Deodorant Reviews
We all sweat, right? I admit that I sweat more than the average woman. I am definitely jealous of the women who say that they don’t sweat! Regardless, I used to use clinical strength until I learned about the toxic ingredients that are used in most deodorants. Some of which include: aluminium, parabens, propylene glycol, phthalates and triclosan. These ingredients have links to cancer, hormone disruption, damage to the nervous system and more. NONE of which, I want to expose myself to if I can help it! We have a choice and I’d like to choose my health.
Over the past 6 months or so, I have been switching my personal care products and cleaning products to using non-toxic. I want to stay away from harmful ingredients, especially for my kids. I believe it starts with me. I want to keep them safe first and foremost and be a role model for them.
So let’s get down to finding the right non-toxic deodorant for you. I have 5 deodorants listed that I have tried myself or have done my research on to make sure they are safe and effective. Everyone's body reacts differently to certain ingredients, some may have more sensitive skin than others, so keep that in mind while you’re reading and choosing.
1. Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant: $7-$10
There are many scents to choose from. There are also the pastes. I personally have only used the stick out of pure convenience. If you don’t mind having to wash your hands after application, you may want to try the paste because the formula is a little different and has a higher concentration of baking soda, therefore it works a little better. That being said, I like the convenience of the stick, I hold it on my underarm for about 20 seconds before application, it applies smoother that way. Some days, I do feel like I need to reapply, depending on what I’m doing, but I am personally ok with that. Some say that the baking soda irritates their skin, so if that is the case, Schmidt’s also sells a Sensitive line! Go Schmidt’s!! You can find this deodorant on Amazon, Target (only have found Lavender), Urban Outfitters and of course their website.
2. Penny Lane Organics Pink Grapefruit $8.99
(Will last 6-12 months)
Not sure if this has a Beatles reference or not but if so, that’s awesome. The reviews rave that this one works so well for all day protection. It also lasts a long time. Most people say that the deodorant needs to be wet a little bit before application to keep from crumbling but that’s not too inconvenient, especially if you are looking for something that smells wonderful without synthetic fragrances! Other scents are: Hemp Tea Tree Lemon and Scent Free
Being stinky is the PITS! This deodorant is a paste. I typically don’t use pastes because it’s more convenient to use a stick. That being said, sometimes taking an extra 30 seconds to something isn’t so bad! They DO sell a stick for $10.50 as well. If you’re looking to get rid of the STINK, than this is it. Charcoal acts as a magnet and pulls impurities from the skin. The bacteria, after all, is what gives us the stink in the first place. You can also use this particular one on your heels, elbows and any dry skin you may have. Directions say you can apply 1-2 times a day. There are tons of scents: SO fresh, Vanilla Grapefruit, Hippie, Lemon Cedarwood, Rose Vanilla, Peppermint, Cinnamint and Pumpkin.
Strong enough for a man! These deodorants are made to order, hence the price. However, it will last for quite some time. It absorbs nicely into the skin and smells wonderful. Reviews RAVE about this cream saying it really works and it also moisturizes your underarms which is a nice idea, soft underarms because, you know how many people touch your armpits!
No one wants to be the stinky girl in school. I kind of always was. NOT anymore though. It may take some getting used to applying deodorant with your finger but again, it wouldn’t take that much longer than applying stick. This locally made deodorant scored a 13.5 out of 15 in a Philly blog when it was up against 7 others.
Now it’s up to you to find the best non toxic deodorant that works for you! Remember it takes about 1-3 weeks for your body to adjust to using a non toxic deodorant. Again, Everyone’s bodies are different and reacts differently. I hope this helps to at least show you that there are plenty of options out there and ranging in price. There is no need to use conventional deodorants that contain harmful ingredients. I suggest you read reviews and do a little research of your own to make the best decision. Good luck and here’s to a little less stink in your life!
